Pix is Brazil’s dominant payment system. It is instant, works around the clock, and is accepted virtually everywhere — from street vendors to utility companies. But to send a Pix payment, you need a bank account or payment institution account in Brazil. If you are a foreigner living, working, or traveling in Brazil, opening a local bank account can be extremely difficult. The bureaucracy around documentation, CPF requirements, and proof of address makes it a non-starter for many.

The DePix App solves this. Using its withdrawal feature, you can send Pix payments to any Pix key in Brazil — even if you do not have a Brazilian bank account. All you need is DePix (a Brazilian real stablecoin) in a Liquid Network wallet. This guide walks you through the process step by step.

How it works

Pix is an instant payment system operated by Brazil’s Central Bank. Normally, sending a Pix payment requires a bank account connected to the system. The DePix App works as an intermediary: it receives your DePix tokens on the Liquid Network and, in return, sends a Pix payment to the recipient’s bank account on your behalf.

Here is the flow: you hold DePix in your digital wallet. When you need to make a payment, you open the DePix App, enter the amount and the recipient’s Pix key. The app generates a Liquid Network address for you to send your DePix to. Once the tokens arrive, the DePix App processes the payment and sends the Pix.

The recipient receives a standard Pix payment in their bank account. They do not need to know anything about cryptocurrency or the Liquid Network. From their side, it is a normal Pix transfer.

This means that if you hold DePix — regardless of how you obtained them — you can pay any person, business, or service that accepts Pix in Brazil, without needing a local bank account.

Step by step: how to make a Pix payment with DePix

The process takes just a few minutes. Note: the DePix App interface is currently in Portuguese, so we include the original labels you will see on screen alongside their English translations.

Step 1: Open the DePix App and select “Realizar pagamento” (Make a payment). Go to depixapp.com in your browser. On the main screen, tap “Realizar pagamento” — the subtitle reads “Sacar DePix” (Withdraw DePix). This is the feature that converts your DePix into a Pix payment.

Step 2: Enter the amount in the “Valor” (Amount) field. Type in the value you want to send. The input accepts amounts in DePix (which is pegged 1:1 to the Brazilian real). You can toggle between two modes using the switch on screen:

  • “Valor que você envia” (Amount you send) — the total that leaves your wallet, including fees.
  • “Valor que você recebe” (Amount the recipient receives) — the net value that arrives at the destination, after fees.

This way you always know exactly how much will be debited and how much the recipient will get.

Step 3: Enter the recipient’s Pix key in the “Chave PIX” (Pix Key) field. The placeholder reads “CPF, e-mail, celular ou chave aleatória” (CPF, email, phone, or random key). A Pix key can be any of these formats — enter whichever one the recipient has shared with you. CPF is a Brazilian tax ID number, but email and phone keys work just as well.

Step 4: Tap “Solicitar transferência” (Request transfer). After confirming the details, the DePix App displays a screen titled “Transferência criada!” (Transfer created!) with a Liquid Network address and a QR code.

Step 5: Send your DePix to the generated address. Open the SideSwap app (or any other Liquid wallet you use). You can either scan the QR code shown on the DePix App screen, or tap “Copiar endereço” (Copy address) and paste it into your wallet. Send exactly the amount of DePix indicated on screen — the app will display a warning reminding you to send the precise amount.

Step 6: The DePix App processes and sends the Pix. Once the DePix tokens are received on the Liquid Network, the app processes the transaction and sends the value via Pix to the specified key. The recipient receives the money in their bank account as a normal Pix payment.

The whole process takes just a few minutes from start to finish.

Where to get DePix

If you do not have a Brazilian bank account, you might wonder how to get DePix in the first place. There are several ways:

Convert cryptocurrency you already hold. If you have Bitcoin, USDt, or L-BTC, you can convert them into DePix using SideSwap. This is the most common path for foreigners — you likely already hold some crypto and just need a way to turn it into spending money in Brazil.

Receive them from someone else. Anyone who holds DePix can send them to your Liquid Network address. If a friend, colleague, or employer uses DePix, they can transfer tokens directly to your wallet. Transactions on the Liquid Network confirm in about two minutes with near-zero fees.

Earn them as an affiliate. The DePix App has an affiliate program that pays commissions in DePix. If you refer the service to others, you receive a percentage of their transactions directly in your wallet.

Receive from services on the Liquid Network. As the Liquid Network ecosystem grows, more services and platforms use DePix as a payment method. If you work for a service that pays in DePix, those tokens go straight to your wallet.

Who benefits from this feature

The DePix App withdrawal feature serves several user profiles.

Foreigners in Brazil. This is one of the most practical use cases. Whether you are an expat, a digital nomad, or a tourist on a longer stay, Pix is everywhere in Brazil — and not having access to it is a daily inconvenience. With the DePix App, you can make Pix payments using crypto you already hold, without dealing with Brazilian banking bureaucracy. No local bank account, no CPF requirement to get started — just an email to sign up.

The unbanked. Millions of Brazilians lack access to traditional banking, whether due to missing documentation, negative credit history, or not meeting account opening requirements. The DePix App gives them a way to participate in the Pix payment system without a bank.

Crypto earners. Freelancers, developers, and remote workers who earn in crypto can use the DePix App as a direct off-ramp for payments in Brazil. Instead of transferring to an exchange, waiting for conversion, and then initiating a bank transfer, you convert to DePix and pay directly via Pix.

Privacy-conscious users. Transactions on the Liquid Network use Confidential Transactions, meaning amounts are only visible to the parties involved. This gives users more control over their financial information. To learn more, read our article on financial privacy with DePix.

Costs and transparency

The DePix App displays withdrawal fees transparently before you confirm the operation. You always know exactly how much you will pay in fees and how much the recipient will receive. There are no hidden costs or embedded spreads — the amount shown on screen is what gets processed.

Compared to other methods of converting crypto into payments in Brazil, the DePix App is more direct. Traditional exchanges require full identity verification, may take days to process withdrawals, and charge both fixed and percentage-based fees that add up. The DePix App simplifies the process to a few taps.

The difference between Pix and DePix in this context

A common question: if the DePix App sends a Pix payment at the end, how is it different from a regular Pix?

With a conventional Pix payment, the money comes from your bank account — which requires having one in Brazil. With the DePix App, the payment originates from your DePix tokens, digital assets on the Liquid Network. You do not need a relationship with any Brazilian financial institution to send the payment.

For the recipient, nothing changes: they receive a standard Pix payment in their account. The difference is entirely on the sender’s side — you can make payments in Brazil using digital assets, without depending on the banking system. Security considerations

Before using the withdrawal feature, keep these security points in mind.

Always verify the Pix key before confirming. Once a Pix payment is sent, the transaction cannot be reversed. Make sure the key you entered is correct and corresponds to the intended recipient.

Keep your Liquid wallet secure. Since the DePix App is non-custodial, the security of your DePix depends on the security of your wallet. Back up your keys, use a strong password, and never share your credentials with anyone.

Review the amounts and fees before sending. The DePix App shows all necessary information on the confirmation screen. Read everything carefully before proceeding.

A new way to access Pix

The DePix App does not aim to replace Pix or the banking system. It extends access to Brazil’s most popular payment system to people who, for whatever reason, do not have a bank account in the country. Whether you are a foreigner who needs to pay bills in Brazil, an unbanked individual, or a professional who earns in crypto, the DePix App’s withdrawal feature bridges the gap between cryptocurrency and Pix.
